A Simple & Sustainable Spring Capsule Wardrobe

It’s that time again for another seasonal wardrobe edit! It feels like I was only just putting together my winter wardrobe, and now I’m back at it again for spring. The start of the year has really flown by for me – how about you? In any case, I hope you’ve been enjoying the first few days of spring so far.

Spring is probably my least favourite season to dress for. Don’t get me wrong – I’m excited for the sun and longer days ahead. But I tend to have trouble dressing appropriately in spring. In the climate where I live, layers are key this time of year. If you’re going out, you need to be prepared for anything just in case: hot sun, cooling clouds, cold wind, rain, and possibly even snow. As I write this, there is steam coming off the roofs outside because it was pouring rain only moments ago and now is bright and sunny. And then, my partner and I were out for a walk just the other day and I was constantly having to take my sweater off and put it back on again. So I guess spring just feels like a lot of fuss. I also find it hard to emerge from my favourite cosy sweater season, which is usually such a comfortable zone for me style-wise.

This is where putting together a seasonal wardrobe edit really helps me out. If I feel stuck in a style rut or like I don’t have anything to wear, I just consult the outfits I’ve already put together from my capsule. Having a limited selection of items actually makes the process of choosing what to wear easier, which is sort of counter-intuitive. But I find that having more pieces to choose from usually leads me to being overwhelmed by all of the options. The answer, at least for me, is definitely less and not more.

With that said, I hope you like this season’s wardrobe edit. It includes 28 pieces from slow fashion and ethical brands, that I bought secondhand or made myself, or that are old fast fashion and I still wear to this day (because the most sustainable thing you can do is wear what you already have, aside from not wearing anything at all.) For colours I’ve stuck to my trusty neutral tones with a few pops of bright blues and greens that mirror the colours emerging in nature this time of year. And I’ve made sure to include plenty of layering options as well – just in case. Enjoy!
