My Spring 2018 Capsule Wardrobe

Spring is in the air! I’m not sad to see the cold weather go, but I am a little sad to have to turn over my winter capsule wardrobe. I really enjoyed having my first official capsule, and I learned a lot. Today I’m really excited to share my next capsule wardrobe for spring with you! Spoiler alert: there’s no black.

Can you believe it? I have so much black in my wardrobe, but I wanted to challenge myself and spring for a more colourful palette (see what I did there?) I’m comforting myself by still including lots of grey.

My spring capsule consists of 38 items. The colour palette is still pretty neutral but I love the pop of colour the pink brings in. And I love the combination of tan, denim, navy blue, and pink as the colours – I just think they work really well together.

Here’s the full capsule!

My Spring 2018 Capsule Wardrobe

I didn’t have to shop much this time around. I made three new purchases: the Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac bag (a steal of a deal found deep within the racks at Winners); the Free People Royale Flats (a bit of a splurge, so it evens out); and the tan sherpa coat. All of the other items I already had from before, and many of them were included in my winter capsule.

This wardrobe is definitely pushing me a little out of my comfort zone but I’m looking forward to trying it out for the next few months. Here are a few outfit ideas to get started with!

  • I love your color palette! I also like to limit my black pieces for spring–something about the season just demands a little lightness.

    • Both of these ones are from Aritzia. I shopped a lot there in my pre-capsule days and although they’re not necessarily sustainably made, the quality is so good and I love their style so their pieces last me a long, long time! The grey one is the Bevington skirt and the suede one is the Hopper skirt.

  • Lovely collection. I’m going to try to do mine this weekend. Such lovely pops of colour and love the ‘no black’ as that’s where I go wrong. Thank you for inspiring me.

    • Yes, I’ve had this one for years and I love it! I get so much wear out of it by dressing it up or down. I got it from Aritzia, I think they still carry the same or at least similar styles but maybe not the same colour. Try here and here. Everlane also has a great option here.

  • This is one of the best capsule wardrobes I’ve seen in a while!! Some of them are so dull and bland and I instantly feel creatively blocked but this one is so fun! I can instantly see your personal style mixed in and I LOVE all the blush pink! Color added to capsule wardrobes is the best!

    • Thank you so much! I did my first capsule in winter and pretty much stuck to the basics then. But this season I’m definitely trying to mix in a few more pieces that are more fun and more of my own personal style. I love how even with a limited number of items you can still add in some personality!

  • I really liked your trench coat, where is it from? I am new at becoming a minimalist and want to start a capsule wardrobe. I have just decluttered my wardrobe. But i lack the basics. And i want to try out a capsule wardrobe this spring. really love your ideas.

    • Thanks so much! It is the Oliver trench coat from Aritzia, I think they still sell it or a similar version. I love it because the quality and tailoring are top notch and it’s already lasted me a few years and still looks brand new! Good luck with your capsule wardrobe journey 🙂

    • Thank you! The dress is from (drum roll)… Aritzia! Haha, based on my comments it sounds like the only place I shop! I think it was the Wilfred Sonore dress, I bought it at least a few years ago now though. But you might be able to find one secondhand 🙂 Thanks again for your comment!

    • Thank you! They are Blundstones, I received mine as a gift but they are sold all over the place. They’re known for long-lasting quality and I wanted to buy something really sturdy like you say, so if you’re looking for that I’d definitely recommend them!

  • Yes! This is exactly what I was looking for! I’ve made the decision to buy more used clothes and to make more ethical purchases. But I’ve always hated shopping because I have to shopping list, I just meander around till I see something cute. But I want to get the staples that are on trend but not “trendy” and you’ve provided me with a shopping list! Love, Love, Love! I love how you’ve even put a few outfits together but would love for you to add more! Thanks Emily. Youve become my new source for fashion

    • Wow thank you so much Korrinne! Your comment made my day. I’m so happy that you found this helpful! Best of luck with your sustainable and ethical fashion journey 🙂

  • Absolutely love your capsule wardrobe posts! Just discovered your blog last week and I have been obsessed ever since. Where are those knits tops from? Aritzia I suppose? Keep up the great work girl xxoo

    • Thank you soo much! I really appreciate your comment 🙂 And yep you got it, they’re from Aritzia!

  • Hey love love love the sandals(heels), the heel seems to be perfect height, i want These!! where did you get them? regards from switzerland 🙂

  • Omg I just did this, too. Took the black out for my capsule for spring. And I LOVE it!

We have almost the same palette but I don’t have camel leather shoes/purse. I stuck with my grey and light blue to save money.

Thanks for the inspo here. Gives me some new ideas on putting my pieces together.

    • Isn’t it refreshing? Grey is my close second favourite so thankfully I don’t feel too far out of my comfort zone, haha! Thanks so much for your comment 🙂

  • hi there,
Great capsule wardrobe! I really like how you show how to pair the outfits. Also, where are the boots, blouses, knit tops and slip dress were purchased.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Finally! A capsule wardrobe in colors and styles I actually like and that suit me. I think I am ready to start purging my closet and developing my own capsule.

    • I’m so glad to hear that, thank you! It has honestly been one of the best things I’ve ever done and has really changed my life in a lot of ways. You won’t regret it 🙂 Good luck!!

  • nice, could you tell me please, how should a jogger fit, should they be skinny in the leg? or baggy, how can I make them look not frumpy.

    • I think it comes down to personal preference, but in my opinion you want to look for a slimmer fit on the leg. They can still be relaxed/a little roomy, mine are not skin tight but they’re also not baggy. Also the material is important, try to go for a lighter/thinner fabric as opposed to the heavier, bulky material that sweatpants are usually made of. Finally you can experiment with how you style them – they are a pretty casual piece so if you want a more elevated look then try mixing them with a nicer top!

  • I absolutely love how most of these pieces can take you all the way through Summer as well. I’ve always wanted to try doing a capsule wardrobe, which is my goal for Spring and Summer so I’ll definitely be taking some of your advice here. I did have a question tho, where is that cream button-front shirt from?! I love it!!

    • Thanks! 🙂 They are by Citizens of Humanity. I think they are the Rocket hi-rise but I can’t find the exact wash anymore. But they are the comfiest and softest pair of jeans ever! They’ve lasted me for years so I feel I could justify the price tag.

  • Hi Emily
    I love the Capsule colours!!
Can u suggest another couple of short shirt dresses as the Aritzia one is sold out? Same with the black and white dress please?
The Rebecca Minkoff bag has a different strap to your picture? Did u buy it separately?
    Thank you in advance,
    Jo xx

    • Thanks so much! For dresses, I’d take a look at Everlane for a more ethical option – their linen shirtdress is quite similar. The cotton collarless belted shirtdress is also kind of close to the sundress, which is a really old purchase from Aritzia (the Sonore dress). You could also try to find it secondhand online. The Rebecca Minkoff bag I have came with the guitar strap, I bought it from Winners.
      Thanks for reading! <3
