I’m so excited to be partnering with Nisolo for today’s blog post. You might remember from my spring capsule post that their Ecuador Haraches have been on my wish list for a while. I’m fortunate enough that they gifted me a pair to share with you! In this article I’ll tell you a little more about their brand and take you on a little trip with me to our local farmer’s market.
Nisolo creates intentionally designed, ethically-made leather shoes and accessories, sold at a fair price. Not only are their shoes beautiful, their high-quality construction means they’re built to last. Their vision is to push the fashion industry in a more sustainable direction by valuing exceptional design, the producer, and the planet just as much as the end consumer.
I was gifted the Ecuador Huarache in the colour burnt sienna, which is one of their longest-standing and bestselling shoes in the women’s line. The thin straps that make up the shoe allow Nisolo to use 95% of the leather in the production process, reducing waste and making it one of their most environmentally sustainable shoes. If you’re interested, you can learn more about the Huarache sandal’s traditional roots and history in this blog post.
Regarding size, I’m normally between an 8.5 and 9 US, and based on the size chart and my foot measurements I went with an 8.5. They fit snug at first but the leather will stretch out and mold to my feet over time. There is a bit of a break-in period with these shoes – the best way to break them in in my opinion is to wear them with socks around the house for a few hours until they soften a little, and only start wearing them out for short periods at a time.
Nisolo’s vision is to push the fashion industry in a more sustainable direction by valuing exceptional design, the producer, and the planet just as much as the end consumer.
After breaking them in a little, I’ve found that they’re super comfortable and excellent for walking around – for example, at the farmer’s market! It was our first time visiting the market in our new city. They had everything from handmade clothes and jewelry to fresh fruits and veggies, preserves, natural bath & body products, and even vegan cheese! This time I came home with some fresh asparagus, as well as cilantro and zucchini plants for my little patio garden.
Farmer’s markets are a great way to shop locally and sustainably, and support local businesses. If you live close to a city with a good market, I’d definitely recommend it! And, what better way to roam through them and enjoy all of the goods than with a pair of comfortable, ethically-made shoes? I’d also recommend going on an empty stomach so you can enjoy some of the fresh made food from all of the vendors and food trucks while you’re there!
Here’s a final look at my Farmer’s market-approved outfit: my Nisolo Ecuador Huaraches in burnt sienna, an easy sundress (an amazing recent find at my local consignment store), and a re-usable tote bag (a must for shopping at the farmer’s market – well, anywhere really!)

Great post – I have never heard of these shoes before, but I will definitely be checking them out! As I started a journey towards living zero waste last summer, I am always on the look out for sustainable brands. Thanks for sharing!
